Seiankornai: greetings

Dragonhawk: Hello all

Tak has connected.
Jessaila: Howdy

Malaina: Hello

Tak: so how goes?

Seiankornai: tired

Dragonhawk: ditto

Seiankornai: head thinky thing thought out

Dragonhawk: looking for a shortish session tonight I hope

Jessaila: A bit in that vein myself.

  • Seiankornai is guessing it’s going to be a slow night tonight
Malaina: so destroy all the undead and call it a session?

Seiankornai: sounds good to me

Dragonhawk: yeah, that should work

Thurirl has connected.
Malaina: good, that way it can’t drag on

Grok has connected.
Dragonhawk: welcome

Grok: Howdy

Thurirl: yo

Dragonhawk: Well, we’re looking at an early finish, basically kill the undead, search the room, send all the tired people off to less-late bedtimes

Tak: and then the boulder starts chasing you and you have to run away

Dragonhawk: heh

  • Grok looks meanly, and all the skeletons fall down?
Dragonhawk: running away is for next session

When last we saw our heroes, a skeleton had just peformed a truly epic (4-action-dice) fumble, and that corner of the room is now on fire.
Jamshid par-Bahadur has received initiative.
Isabis has received initiative.
It is Isabis’ turn, followed by Malaina

  • Isabis gets properly into the room and attacks a skeleton with her whip, hitting « 1d20+6 = 13 + 6 = 19 »

  • Isabis does « 1d6 = 4 » damage
  • Skeleton 880 saves for « 1d20+7 = 5 + 7 = 12 » vs 12

  • Jessaila strikes a second time.
  • Jessaila strikes with elfin speed and her fencing sabre. « 1d20+7 = 1 + 7 = 8 » tohit, « 1d10 = 3 » for damage.
Jessaila: ((I guess in this battle I’m paying for trying to do something cool by never getting a roll high enough to do anything.))

Skeleton: GM spends an action die to activate fumble

Seiankornai: ((something like that it would seem))

The skull on Jessaila’s sabre catches fire! As improvised weapons go, it’s impressively menacing, but it scorches her hand a little too ( « 1d4 = 4 » fire damage )
Skeleton: ((if you hit, it now does +1 fire damage though)

Thurirl has received initiative.
Seiankornai: ((I beleive Thurirl is currently hidden from the enemy))

Skeleton: ((yes))

Thurirl: ((do I have a clear line of sight to the Wight?))

Skeleton: ((agreed))

  • Thurirl steps away from the Varis to get a better shot…
  • Thurirl fires off three rays of intense heat, burning into his targets with the fury of his magic!

Seiankornai: ((hmm?))

Thurirl: ((bad macro; nevermind)) Thurirl: “But as for you… there is nothing but ash and the cold grip of oblivion in your future…” (Threaten: « 1d20+8 = 11 + 8 = 19 » )
  • Wight cares about a threat? « 1d20+4 = 19 + 4 = 23 »
Thurirl: ((…. Bat Vessa needs a better outfit.))
Wight: “I have died once already in the great cause, I fear it not.”

Wight: ((all of those are to-hits above, obviously))

Jessaila: ((Hit on me, too.))

Grok: 4 hits on Grok

  • Dragonhawk flails burning bits of itself in all directions in it’s dying failure; the squares next to it catch fire

Dragonhawk: skeleton damages: on Grok « 1d6+2 = 6 + 2 = 8 » « 1d6+2 = 4 + 2 = 6 » « 1d6+2 = 2 + 2 = 4 » « 1d6+2 = 2 + 2 = 4 », on Jessaila « 1d6+2 = 1 + 2 = 3 »

Dragonhawk: ((gives Thurirl an extra attack right now?))

Thurirl: “Consider it done.”

Malaina: ((Yes, and that would be my whole turn))

Malaina: ((I just wanted to try it!))

Malaina: ((Hit or miss, I feel accomplished!))

Dragonhawk: ((heh, fair enough))

Thurirl: ((then I will take my attack…))

Dragonhawk: ((with Thurirl, it’s also a way of giving him an extra spell casting chance in the same round))

Tak: ((It just grants a Standard Attack))

  • Thurirl whips his tail at his foe with fearsome speed!
    Attacks « 1d20+5 = 6 + 5 = 11 » for « 1d8+1 = 5 + 1 = 6 » damage.
Dragonhawk: ((I thought it was an “attack action”?))

Dragonhawk: ((maybe I misremembered it. It wouldn’t exactly be shocking, especially tonight ))

Dragonhawk: miss

Jessaila has received initiative.
Malaina: (( COORDINATED ATTACK Your guidance dramatically improves your teammates combat prowess. Benefit: Once per round as a full action, you may direct a teammate who can see and hear you to make an immediate Standard Attack.))

Seiankornai: ((it is an attack action, but that’s a very specific action, not spell casting or other things))

Dragonhawk: ((ah, my mistake then))

Jessaila: ((My turn, eh?))

Seiankornai: ((yep))

  • Grok smash again
    Grok: Grok smashes the foe down with brute strength! « 1d20+13 = 4 + 13 = 17 » for « 1d4+10 = 2 + 10 = 12 » damage

Grok: sorry, distracted tonigh

Seiankornai has received initiative.
Dragonhawk: miss

  • Seiankornai enjoys the flame, but understands that the others are quite suited for it, so spends an action putting the fit out (10 points), then tries to chomp down on the skeleton again
    Bite hits « 1d20+12 = 3 + 12 = 15 » for « 1d10+8 = 10 + 8 = 18 » damage
  • Seiankornai grunts in annoyance, and bites it again in contempt
    Bite Hits « 1d20+12 = 16 + 12 = 28 » for « 1d10+8 = 5 + 8 = 13 » damage
    Seiankornai: ((there we go))

Seiankornai: ((done otherwise))

Dragonhawk: skeleton 372 saves for « 1d20+7 = 2 + 7 = 9 » vs 21

Thurirl: ((oooh, crunch))

Dragonhawk: The Wight attacks Thurirl again, hitting « 1d20+7 = 17 + 7 = 24 » for possible « 1d6+1 = 5 + 1 = 6 » and fort save

Thurirl: ((ow)) Thurirl: Fort Reflex: « 1d20+3 = 11 + 3 = 14 »

Dragonhawk: ((fort save vs. 15 please…))

Thurirl: ((…sonuva…!))

Thurirl feels a numbing cold seeping into him from where the wight’s claws struck him. He takes « 1d4 = 4 » temporary con damage and loses a half-action
Seiankornai: ((ouch))

Dragonhawk: ((ouch indeed.))

Malaina: ((Could have AD that))

  • Wight tries again, hitting « 1d20+7 = 19 + 7 = 26 » for possible « 1d6+1 = 1 + 1 = 2 »
    Dragonhawk: ((nother fort save))

Dragonhawk: “Yessssss, feel the touch of ash and cold oblivion!”

Thurirl: Fort Reflex: « 1d20+3 = 9 + 3 = 12 »

Dragonhawk: ((you need to hit 15 to save))

Thurirl: AD: « 1d4 = 2 »

Dragonhawk: ((… it’s 1d6, roll again))

Thurirl: ((dagnabbit)) Thurirl: AD: « 1d6 = 4 »

Malaina: ((Woohoo!))

Dragonhawk: ((There you go.))

  • Thurirl hisses in pain, but otherwise says nothing. He looks like he’s ready to lop this thing’s head off though.
    Dragonhawk: skeletons attack:
    no 219 against Isabis’s minion: « 1d20+13 = 2 + 13 = 15 » and « 1d20+13 = 1 + 13 = 14 »

Dragonhawk: 996 damages Grok for « 2d6+2 = 4 + 2 = 6 »

Dragonhawk: 825 for « 1d6+1 = 2 + 1 = 3 »

The wolves finally stick their noses in the door to see if pack-leader is OK, and the dwarves slam the door behind their tails. You hear a key turning the lock
Wight: “You are mine! The Crone has given you to me to join me in death!”

Jamshid par-Bahadur has received initiative.
Isabis has received initiative.

  • Isabis attacks the wight for « 1d20+6 = 20 + 6 = 26 » and possible damage « 1d6+1 = 6 + 1 = 7 »
    Seiankornai: ((woohoo!))
Isabis: “Down, creature.” Wight: “You DARE speak to me that way?!?” Thurirl: “Death is not the greatest thing to fear…” Isabis: “Moru has given it to me to command the dead.”
  • Isabis attacks again
  • Isabis attacks the wight for « 1d20+6 = 10 + 6 = 16 » and possible damage « 1d6+1 = 4 + 1 = 5 »
    Isabis: ((miss))

Malaina has received initiative.
Malaina: « 1d20+11 = 13 + 11 = 24 » Halberd; AP 5, Reach +1,Trip, Bleed, Hook, 19-20 Threat (17-20 for Favored Foes), Skull Crack @ 219

Malaina cracks another empty skull

Malaina: ((And Done))

Jessaila has received initiative.

  • Wight gives off odd chemical colors in the flame
Thurirl: ((Please don’t roast the Vessa. XD))

Jessaila: ((#825 is still active, yes?))

Seiankornai: ((looks like))

Dragonhawk: ((yes))

Dragonhawk: Jessaila delays; Thurirl

Thurirl has received initiative.
Thurirl: “Remember my words, creature… I talked of ash…”

  • Thurirl fires off three rays of intense heat, burning into his targets with the fury of his magic!
    (Casting Check: « 1d20+14 = 20 + 14 = 34 » Damage: Ray 1: « 4d4 = 9 » Ray 2: « 4d4 = 5 » Ray 3: « 4d4 = 10 »; AP 5)
    Seiankornai: ((WOOO!!!))

Malaina: ((Oooo, Crit!!))

Thurirl: ((Nat 20))

Seiankornai: ((activate that crit!!)

Thurirl: Crit AD: « 1d6 = 3 »

Dragonhawk: ((you don’t have to roll it))

Thurirl: ((sorry))

Thurirl converts the creature, in very fact to ash in one two rapid bursts of pure energy; the third passes through the cloud to splash harmlessly off the far wall.

  • Seiankornai sees what Thurirl does to the wight. “I think you ment ‘I talked to ash’, Thurirl.”
    Malaina: “Good job Thurirl!”
Isabis: “Impressive” Thurirl: “You may critique my witty banter when our lives are not in mortal peril.”

All that is left of the wight is some blackened armor and Thurirl’s lingering weakness, which doesn’t seem to be harming his combat capability!
Malaina: “Let’s finish off the rest!”

Dragonhawk: ((Jessaila’s turn))

  • Jessaila looks at the closest Skeleton and grins, raising her saber in an almost-playful looking prelude to a blade attack…
  • Jessaila feints to reduce her opponent’s readiness. « 1d20+8 = 17 + 8 = 25 » Prestidigitation (versus notice check) to reduce opponent to flat-footed status.
Dragonhawk: ((exceeds the skele’s maximum notice, so that’s a Yes))
  • Jessaila then reveals her off-hand and casts magic missiles.
  • Jessaila makes with the magic. « 1d20+13 = 6 + 13 = 19 »
    Jessaila: « 3d6 = 15 » Damage
  • Skeleton saves for « 1d20+7 = 5 + 7 = 12 » vs 24
    Seiankornai: ((piff))

Jessaila fakes out the skeleton and reduces it to powder
Jessaila: “Like a butterfly blowing kisses of death…”

  • Jessaila steps forward a pace to get out of Seian’s way.
    Grok has received initiative.
  • Grok attempts to remove skelie 996’s skull from his spine.
    Grok: Grok smashes the foe down with brute strength! « 1d20+13 = 13 + 13 = 26 » for « 1d4+10 = 2 + 10 = 12 » damage
  • Grok also rocks skelie 506
    Grok: Grok throws a rock at the foe! « 1d20+13 = 20 + 13 = 33 » to hit, for « 1d12+10 = 9 + 10 = 19 » damage, AP 4, and smaller opponents must make a Fortitude save DC equal to damage suffered, or become sprawled.
Grok: activating crit

Malaina: ((Activate it!))

  • Skeleton 996 saves for « 1d20+7 = 1 + 7 = 8 » vs 23
Thurirl: ((I think he just crushed it into dust))

Malaina: ((Or popped the head off the spine and crushed the skull))

  • Skeleton 506 saves for « 1d20+7 = 9 + 7 = 16 » vs 14
Seiankornai: ((why a rock? why not the first skeleton’s skull thrown at the other?))

Malaina: ((That would most effective))

Skeleton: ((last one survives for Seian to do in if you’re not activating the crit))

Seiankornai: ((506 was a crit))

Skeleton: ((oh, you did activate. My mistake))

Grok finishes off the skeletons. You now have no threats to life and limb except a little bit of fire in a locked room

  • Seiankornai sees the battle is done, so rolls around in the fire, having a bit of fun and putting it out.
…and the drakes are all on top of that.
    Skeleton: ((literally ))
  • Malaina puts her Halbred back up, dusting off her hands
Malaina: “Anything else in here we need to take care of?”

Seiankornai: “Mmmrrrrrrrrr!!!!”

  • Thurirl dusts himself off and examines his wound…
  • Malaina goes to check out that armor
Isabis: “Of course there is – we came in here to look for the scroll, remember?”
  • Jessaila starts prowling the room, looking for treasure.
Thurirl: “Accursed thing. I do believe its biology is toxic to all living beings. I would find it much more fascinating if I were not suffering from its effects.”

Malaina: “You going to be ok?”

This room was once a shrine to the Faces of Creation, and still features a low stone altar on the western wall (sadly desecrated, probably in the same ceremony that created the wight).

  • Grok looks for interesting skeleton or wight loot
Thurirl: “I believe I will recover, however, I would indeed appreciate some first aid.”

Jessaila: “Here, let me help.”

  • Jessaila casts Cure Woulds I on Thurirl.
  • Jessaila makes with the magic. « 1d20+13 = 14 + 13 = 27 »
  • Malaina goes to see if they can get out
Atop the altar, arms folded over his chest, lies the corpse of an old dwarven warrior in half-plate. Astonishingly, the orc-wight doesn’t seem to have done anything especially bad to it besides leaving it unburied there….but then, for a dwarf, that’s bad enough.
  • Thurirl examines the corpse, curious if there is a way to undo the damage… or perhaps at least give the warrior a proper burial.
  • Isabis begins the tedious task of healing Grok by innumerable castings of “Touch of Light”
The dwarf corpse doesn’t appear to be damaged. Indeed, it is nearly as well-preserved as the orc. You can even recognize it; it’s the same face as in all those cavings.
  • Thurirl finds it fascinating. He will definitely be talking to the dwarves in the other room about arranging burial. They might want to do it at least to prevent further insult to injury.
Seiankornai: “Was he a lord of a cleric?”

Seiankornai: “Or both?”

Thurirl: “I do not know. He was important enough to carve into the walls. Perhaps our local tenants can illuminate this mystery.”
  • Jessaila goes back to searching for valuable items remaining after the enemy occupation.
  • Jessaila searches. « 1d20+11 = 13 + 11 = 24 » (Search)
Isabis: “Clerics are rarely carven into doorways; I imagine this is the old lord of the delve.”
  • Malaina sees if she can get the door open
Seiankornai: “I don’t know, they sounded like they came here later with the invaders, not the original inhabitants.”

Jessaila finds a tattered sack half-hidden behind the altar, containing 280 sp, a disgusting array of “trophies” that probably came from the same people who also became the skeletons, and… a metal scroll case!
Jessaila: “Look what I found!”

Seiankornai: ((and now everyone crowds around!!))

Thurirl: “Ah. That does indeed look important. We should attempt opening it.”

Seiankornai: “Open it!”

Malaina: “Hmmm, whatcha find Jess?”

  • Jessaila opens up the tube.
You whisper to Jessaila: Sadly, it is quite clearly not the scroll you are looking for; it appears to be the sort that stores a magical spell
    « 1d4 = 2 » « 1d8 = 6 »
    Jessaila: “Oh… it’s a spell-storing scroll, I think.”
  • Jessaila tries to identify it more closely.
    « 1d4 = 1 » « 1d8 = 5 »
Seiankornai: “Not the one we’re after?”

Jessaila: “No, definitely not…”

Thurirl: “Even so, it may prove useful.”

Seiankornai: “Pity, but as Thurirl said.”

  • Seiankornai sticks his head out and shouts to the dwarves “Hey, we trounced all the undea in here!”
    « 1d4 = 2 » « 1d8 = 5 »
Thurirl: ((…through what? That door have a window?))

You whisper to Jessaila: It appears to contain three spells: Heal, Cause Wounds 1 (Mass), and Heroism II
Seiankornai: ((the open doorway))

Isabis: ((it’s not open, they slammed it shut and locked it ))

Jessaila: “I think I know what spells these have on them.”

Seiankornai: ((oh, then the now busted down door way ))

Jessaila: “One spell for healing, one for causing harm, and one to increase someone’s valor.”

Isabis: ((if you want to attack the door, then try it; it’s not exactly balsa wood))
  • Isabis looks over Jessaila’s shoulder
    Isabis: “Ooh, powerful stuff.”
Isabis: ((levels 5, 5, 6))

Malaina: “Why in the world did they lock the door?”

Dwarf: “That’s nice. What about the other ones?”

Seiankornai: “Probably because there’s dangerous undead in here they don’t want getting out.”

Seiankornai: “This probably isn’t too far from where they keep their children, after all.”

Dwarf: “Exactly. And we still don’t.”

Malaina: “Well, any undead in here we found is dead now.”

Dwarf: “Have fun looking for your whatever.”

You hear footsteps walking away
Malaina: “I think we better let Grok do his thing.”

Grok: ((wait, have they locked us in?))

  • Dwarf comes back
    Malaina: ((Yep))
Thurirl: “Their demeanor leaves something to be desired… in any case, perhaps we should continue upon our quest.”

Dwarf: “Oh, yeah, the captain says tell you go out the other door. Bye.”

  • Dwarf walks away again.
  • Grok looks at what the door is made of, to determine how much force, or cannon, to use.
Thurirl: “…curious. I was not aware this room had more than one.”

Seiankornai: “Other door?”

  • Malaina goes to look for this other door
Seiankornai: “What is it with dwarves and hidden doors?” shakes head

The door looked like stone on the far side; on this side it’s backed by a plate of metal etched with some sort of complicated symbolic artwork featuring the various faces of creation.
Dwarf: ((search checks for the other door))

  • Jessaila searches. « 1d20+11 = 8 + 11 = 19 » (Search)
    Dwarf: ((need a 20))
Malaina: « 1d20+9 = 4 + 9 = 13 » Search
  • Isabis searches « 1d20+14 = 18 + 14 = 32 »
Isabis: “Ah, here it is, it’s worked into this frieze with all the mountains.”
  • Isabis opens a mountain-shaped doorway in the carvings on the east wall
    Game Saved
  • Jessaila has a look.
